The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America's largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people across a 5,000-square-mile travel area surrounding New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. The MTA network comprises the nation’s largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. MTA strives to provide a safe and reliable commute, excellent customer service, and rewarding opportunities.
Position Objective:
The Deputy Chief of MTA Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) leads a team dedicated to enabling smarter, data-driven decisions across asset management activities for all MTA operating units (NYCT, MNR, LIRR, and TBTA). This role does not manage EAM systems day-to-day; instead, it partners with maintenance and EAM executives in each operating unit to identify opportunities where advanced analytics and decision-support tools can improve asset performance and operational efficiency.
Typical decisions include adjusting maintenance strategies, such as inspection frequency and preventive activities, and developing timely, high-quality asset condition reporting (for C&D) to inform optimal asset replacement strategies and timing. The Deputy Chief also drives cross-agency collaboration, ensuring best practices and lessons learned are shared to improve EAM deployment and analytics enterprise-wide. This leader manages a team of 6–10 professionals specializing in EAM-related analytics and decision support and oversees external consulting contracts to deliver high-impact projects with strong return on investment.
Responsibilities:
- Enable More Data-Driven Decision Making:
Work with operating unit leaders to identify opportunities where EAM data and analytics can improve maintenance strategies and asset replacement decisions. - Maintenance Optimization:
Use data-driven insights in partnership with the relevant business leads that result in enhanced asset reliability and/or field resource productivity. This is most typically done via adjustments to inspection schedules, preventive maintenance activities, and workforce allocation approaches. - External Support and Budget Management:
Oversee the external support budget, solicit specialized consultant services, and ensure all projects deliver measurable impact and strong ROI. - Asset Replacement Planning:
Establish optimal asset condition reporting approaches with any related analytics to better support capital planning and determine optimal replacement timing. - Cross-Agency
Collaboration:
Facilitate knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices across MTA agencies through forums, workshops, and other structured processes. This includes helping units finishing deployment learn from similar instances in other MTA operating units. - Team Leadership:
Manage and develop a team of up to 10 professionals focused on analytics, modeling, and decision support. Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. - Stakeholder Engagement:
Build strong relationships with maintenance, operations, and capital planning leaders to align analytics initiatives with business priorities. - Performance Measurement:
Help establish KPIs and reporting frameworks to track improvements in asset reliability, maintenance efficiency, and decision-making effectiveness. - Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance analytical tools, processes, and capabilities to deliver greater value across the organization.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must have foundational knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management systems and experience utilizing EAM analytics to improve asset productivity.
- Must have knowledge of heavy asset maintenance activities, preferably for rail and buses
- Experience managing cost center…
