NYC DOT - Chief of Staff
NYC DOT is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the Commissioner as Chief of Staff. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the Commissioner's senior team, responsible for prioritizing and coordinating work efforts, managing and organizing the flow of information, and providing oversight to ensure effective and timely follow-through on various policy, operational, strategic and budget initiatives.
The candidate will work closely with the Commissioner and other leadership team members to set strategic direction and participate in critical decision‑making for the agency.
The Chief of Staff participates in overall management of the agency alongside the Commissioner, facilitating the Commissioner's daily activities by overseeing the work of the Commissioner's Executive Assistant, the Deputy Chief of Staff, and the Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff. The selected candidate will collaborate with all divisional Chiefs of Staff across the agency to create and maintain synergy.
The role serves as a liaison to City Hall, preparing high‑level memos, presentations, and reports, and responding to inquiries and information requests. The candidate will also maintain close relationships with DOT's sister agencies and other external stakeholders.
- Work with the Commissioner and Deputy Chief of Staff to develop, implement, and update a strategic vision and priority initiatives for the agency.
- Work closely with Deputy Commissioners and division heads to address issues and provide timely information to the Commissioner, City Hall, and other internal and external entities.
- Organize and prioritize critical issues and required information to facilitate efficient decision making.
- Act as a point of contact between the Commissioner and other stakeholders, providing oversight and guidance to high‑importance projects.
- Serve as an adviser to the Commissioner and senior management team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in public administration or related field.
- Ability to juggle multiple requests and issues concurrently from a multitude of requesters.
- Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills, proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management.
- Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.
- Effective, versatile and action‑oriented.
- Excellent communication skills.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
