Montefiore Einstein is the umbrella organization for Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Health System. In addition to its medical and doctoral program, Einstein offers master's degrees in clinical research methods and bioethics. Einstein receives for than $215 million in NIH funding each year and support NIH-designated research centers in cancer, aging, AIDS, intellectual and developmental disorders, clinical and translational research and type II diabetes.

Montefiore provides care to approximately three million people in communities across the Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and Hudson Valley. It comprises 10 hospitals and over 200 outpatient ambulatory care sites.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center (MECCC) and Vice President of Cancer Medicine will serve as the executive leader responsible for advancing the Center’s mission and vision, driving scientific excellence, and ensuring the Center’s continued distinction as a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Director reports to the Dean of Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the President and CEO of Montefiore Einstein and serves as chief cancer advisor to the Dean and CEO.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director is responsible and accountable for all administrative functions and operations related to the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), including submission of competing and non-competing renewal applications, and developing the strategic priorities related to all facets of the NCI designation, inclusive of governance, basic, translational, clinical and population science, clinical trials, clinical care, education and training, and community outreach and engagement.
  • The Director is responsible for the exceptional performance of all CCSG-supported components, including the six essential characteristics, four translational research programs, eight shared resources, strategic planning and evaluation, governance and overall impact to reduce the burden of cancer in the Bronx.
  • Critical to the success of the Center is sustained growth in the research portfolio and acceleration of translational research through investment in Einstein’s basic science and in innovative clinical trials, as well as in the development of novel therapeutics across the Montefiore Health System.
  • The Director will lead efforts to align cancer priorities and scientific excellence across Montefiore Einstein, leveraging expertise across departments, centers and institutes, and will serve on all Einstein and Montefiore Health System governing committees to lead cancer-relevant initiatives. These include faculty recruitment, space, informatics, shared resources/core facilities, clinical care delivery, clinical research, clinical expansion, philanthropy, and a nascent clinical trials network.
  • The Director will develop a cancer enterprise steering committee and partner with the Center’s Associate Director for Clinical Services to oversee the expansion and integration of the cancer service line and MECCC mission.
