Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor

Position Overview

This position is located in the Police Service at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. The incumbent will provide information to higher level supervisor regarding ability to provide services, problems with assignments, vehicles and/or personnel problems.

• Serves as working supervisor exercising full supervisory responsibility over the work operations involving 6 Motor Vehicle Operators WG‑5703‑7, 3 Motor Vehicle Operators WG‑5703‑6, 1 Automotive Mechanic WG‑5823‑10, 6 Laborers WG‑3502‑3 and 5 CWT workers. Incumbent is also responsible for the beautification and maintenance of the James J. Peters Medical Center’s grounds and property covering approximately 32 acres. Incumbent assigns responsibilities to subordinates to maintain a daily schedule of garbage and refuse removal, daily landscaping and debris removal, snow and ice removal during inclement weather, and ensuring adequate numbers of subordinates are available during winter storms.
  
  Incumbent trains and advises Motor Vehicle Operators on proper usage and maintenance of the VA fleet, tracks mileage, fuel usage, EZ Pass usage, maintenance schedules, and keeps vehicles clean and in prime condition. Incumbent plans and adjusts weekly and monthly work schedules and sequences of operations for maximum utilization of workforce, resources and vehicles; establishes work deadlines and priorities; selects workers and assigns tasks;
  
  investigates work related problems and takes corrective action; coordinates with other activities; develops performance standards; conducts counseling sessions; initiates formal disciplinary action; determines training needs; keeps job descriptions updated; interviews candidates and promotes employee participation in management programs; ensures policies for labor‑management relations and equal employment opportunity are carried out; plans overall leave schedules; maintains production reports; serves as management representative;
  
  performs non‑supervisory duties when necessary; and performs other related duties as assigned.
