Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary

The Managing Director of Strategic Operations will oversee and strengthen the organization’s internal operations, workflows, and program execution. This role focuses on supervising staff and supporting day-to-day operational processes, including logistics and coordination, to ensure cross-departmental work is organized, consistent, and well supported.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Managing Director works closely with program leadership and central operations staff to manage people, align processes, and support the successful implementation of organizational priorities.

Please note:

This is a hybrid role, requiring four days on-site and one day remote each week.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Oversee and strengthen internal operational workflows, including logistics, scheduling, and resource coordination, ensuring tasks are tracked, documented, and completed on time.
  • Coordinate across departments to support the smooth execution of programs and shared operational responsibilities.
  • Identify operational and logistical challenges and recommend practical, achievable process improvements.
  • Support the rollout, adoption, and consistent use of internal systems, tools, and standard operating procedures.
  • Supervise and manage staff, providing clear direction, regular feedback, and ongoing guidance.
  • Assist managers and staff with planning, scheduling, and workload management to ensure operational needs are met efficiently.
  • Support annual planning efforts by translating organizational priorities into operational work plans and tracking implementation.
  • Partner with finance and operations leadership to monitor budgets, track spending, and support financial controls.
  • Coordinate grant tracking, documentation, and reporting in collaboration with development and finance teams.
  • Prepare internal operational reports and summaries for leadership, including updates on logistics, timelines, and execution status.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Skill and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree (preferred).
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in non-profit or mission-driven organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing day-to-day operational, logistical, or administrative functions.
  • Experience supporting budgets, grant coordination and reporting, compliance requirements, and cross-functional operational needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and experience using internal reporting, tracking, or operational tools.
Compensation

$180,000 to $225,000 per year.
