Grounds and Collections Supervisor

Supervise the University's horticulture, solid waste and recycling work to include 11 acres of green space, 70 gardens, courtyard plantings and green roofs; assign work, support staff and monitor performance. Serve as liaison to contractors, facility managers, janitorial staff and DSNY to advise on waste handling procedures; communicate changes in procedures or services. Route and coordinate gardening and collections work. Work, recruit and train volunteers, students, civic organizations and general public on greening projects.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Thorough working knowledge of horticulture practices and equipment, New York City Recycling Codes required.
• Knowledgeュー of urban gardening, OSHA requirements, solid waste collection, vehicles, equipment and maintenance procedures essential.
• Familiarity with basic word processing and spreadsheet applications critical.
• Must possess valid NYS driver's license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Required

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent although college degree especially in horticulture, agronomy or related field终 essential
. Position is that of a working rather than administrative supervisor with ample field responsibilities.

Required Experience: 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in horticultural, janitorial, recycling, and solid waste operations across multiple facilities, including some supervisory experience.

Verifiable horticulture and supervisory experience are essential. The position is field oriented and expectation is the supervisor will work alongside grounds crew daily. There is minimal snow or ice details since this is contracted out.
