We act as Bain’s portal to the external world of data and insights. We conduct secondary research to discover, distill, and present information to help case teams—our primary client—answer pressing questions. Each team member has deep knowledge in specific, specialized areas, yet maintains a broad awareness of additional data sources and the best places to locate them.
This team is global and we support each other through a collaborative network of research teams. We operate out of several dozen locations and maintain continuous communication. While we don’t consult clients directly, we blend a love of knowledge with practical support for Bain’s commercial aims. The discipline of research is evolving rapidly—work at the forefront of artificial intelligence‑augmented research with large language models, chatbots, and new interfaces.
WHATYOU’LL DO Essential Functions
- Vendor management, data strategy, and budgeting for the Private Equity practice (50%)
- Research for case teams, client development, IP and practice areas (20%)
- Coaching practice affiliates in specialized sectors (10%)
- Asset creation, including innovation, product development, topic and vendor guides published to IRIS/Internal KM Systems (10%)
- Practice communication, liaising with Global Practice Head, regional stakeholders and PEG vertical leaders (10%)
- Drive the data strategy for the Private Equity practice, including contract management, vendor selection, and implementation.
- Collaborate with RDS leadership to support training and knowledge capture related to external sources.
- Lead specialized, complex research efforts, manage projects, and build assets.
- Leverage deep expertise of the Private Equity industry—drivers, trends, structure, regulatory considerations—and data to communicate insights to practice areas and case teams.
- Act as a global point of contact for a specialization area, providing knowledge, advice and source expertise to RDS, case teams, PPK, and clients.
- Facilitate communication across practice teams, RDS, and end‑users to proactively address issues and resolve challenges.
- Participate in client meetings to provide insights into industry data sources and methodologies, as needed.
- Lead practice content evaluation, resource development and implementation activities.
- Develop and manage a subject‑specific portfolio of data sources, evaluating new or replacement sources for adoption.
- Plan and lead asset‑building projects to synthesize and present data efficiently.
- Manage knowledge capture programs such as IRIS pages, source guides and topic guides.
- Schedule and initiate meetings with practice leadership, Knowledge Specialists and RDS Specialists to review practice projects and research support.
- Collaborate with Practice People Leaders and Experts to develop and present training materials for practice sources.
- Proactively build a knowledge‑sharing community of internal content with PPK.
- Attend practice meetings, industry events and external conferences regularly.
- Engage in continuous skill development, both externally and internally.
- Lead global and/or regional RDS practice teams in establishing standards and solutions.
- Drive innovation and thought leadership as an idea generator.
