Position Summary

The Maintenance Porter is a critical role that maintains cleanliness and order in the facility while performing maintenance tasks. This role reports to the Center Director and supports other PAL sites by providing cleaning and maintenance support across locations. The position ensures a safe and sanitary environment for all occupants, requiring attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently.

What

You’ll Do
  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of assigned areas, including restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas, and restock supplies.
  • Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum floors; clean windows and surfaces as needed.
  • Empty trash bins and dispose of waste materials in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Order and stock cleaning supplies using PAL’s purchase order system.
  • Maintain and clean custodial equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working order.
Maintenance Tasks
  • Update and resolve tickets in PAL’s facility maintenance tracking system.
  • Assist with maintenance duties, including changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, painting, and maintaining equipment.
  • Report maintenance needs or safety hazards to the supervisor and enter new issues in PAL’s ticketing system.
  • Escort vendors for repairs, inspections, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Transport and deliver supplies across sites for events or coverage.
Safety Compliance
  • Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to safety standards and SACC licensed practices.
  • Perform daily opening and closing walkthroughs and report any issues.
  • Work closely with leadership, custodial, and maintenance staff to support overall operations.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial or maintenance experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment safety standards.
  • Physical stamina to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, stand for extended periods.
  • Self‑starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly professional, team‑oriented, and eager to help the department meet its goals.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete assignments under strict deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel across NYC locations; driver’s license preferred.
  • Maintenance or custodial certifications preferred.
  • Experience in customer service, vendor relationships, purchasing, inventory management, facility management, or building maintenance is a plus.
  • English fluency required; bilingual Spanish preferred.
Compensation

This is a non‑exempt position with an hourly rate of $17.50.

Location

991 Longwood Avenue, Bronx, NY 10459 (New South Bronx PAL). Local travel across NYC program sites is required.

Hours & Days

Tuesday – Friday 10:30 am – 6:30 pm, Saturday 7 am – 3 pm (35 hours per week).

Start Date

January 26, 2026 (tentative).
