Operating 24 shelters across New York City, URI provides 3,700 beds nightly in purpose-built shelters that offer trauma-informed services including counseling, childcare, case management, and more. URI’s Justice Initiatives extend support beyond shelter, offering programs in economic empowerment, legal advocacy, youth prevention, and abusive partner intervention.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible to ensure the facility is maintained in a first class manner. This would include the supervision and completion of all building repairs, building maintenance and contract maintenance services and the teams that support these activities. In addition, all work must adhere to organizational guidelines and requirements as well as reference industry best practice.

Salary: $49,000

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise staff employees and outside contractors
  • Identify, schedule and coordinate building repairs
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance is performed in a workman like manner
  • Support, train and review repair work performed by URI Maintenance Workers
  • Coordinate scheduled preventative maintenance service work
  • Supervise contracted work
  • Coordinate the completion of Service Requests
  • Coordinate the turnover of vacated residences
  • Ensure adequate repair materials and cleaning supplies
  • Conduct regular inspections of the building and grounds
  • Provide regular repair and maintenance updates to the Assistant Director
  • Adhere to all local building codes as well as state and federal building regulations
  • Respond to site emergencies as the situation requires
  • Perform other duties as assigned
SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • College Degree a plus
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of 3 years of building maintenance experience in a supervisory role in a residential apartment or commercial building environment
  • Basic knowledge of building systems including heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs, drywall repairs and painting
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Outlook
  • Good Communication Skills both verbal and written
  • Multi-task in a time sensitive environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with and sensitivity to individuals from varying sociodemographic backgrounds including individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with substance use and/or mental health issues
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
SPECIFICATIONS FOR

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequently lift or move 50 pounds. Able to travel between sites throughout NYC. Able to work outdoors in adverse conditions (heat or cold).
