Position: Day Light Duty Cleaner – OWTC

Overview

We are seeking one Day Light Duty Cleaner for our Building Services team at One World Trade Center. The role provides superior customer service to building tenants and guests, ensuring designated areas are always clean and well‑organized. The position is a Local 32BJ union role based at One World Trade Center.

Shift: Monday‑Friday 8 a.m.‑5 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday off). Post is Floater.

Salary Range: $24.04 – $32.05 per hour, with overtime eligible for all hours worked per the Local 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities
  • Empty wastebaskets by thoroughly damp wiping in/out. Collected rubbish must be placed in designated area for removal.
  • Dust and wipe clean all furniture (vertical and horizontal surfaces), equipment, telephones, and windowsills.
  • Dust baseboards, chair rails, picture frames, and doors within reach.
  • Remove finger marks and smudges from office entrance doors, light switches, door frames, and all interior glass (except windows).
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas; sweep and/or damp mop all hard‑floor surfaces nightly.
  • Dust all doors and ventilating louvers within reach.
  • Maintain janitor closet to standard level and ensure all assigned equipment is clean.
  • Turn off all lights and secure all doors scheduled to be locked upon completion of cleaning.
  • Report to immediate supervisor any malfunctioning or not‑working equipment.
Pantry Maintenance

Clean all vertical and horizontal surfaces and microwave/refrigerator (if directed). Thoroughly sweep and damp mop floor. Ensure no splash of solution on walls, doors, or furniture.

Clean Lavatories

Empty all waste receptacles, replace with new clear plastic liners; thoroughly clean all fixtures (toilet bowls, urinals, sinks, partitions, mirrors) with an approved disinfectant; replenish soap and paper dispensers; wash all floors with approved disinfectant.

Floor Scrubbing and Finishing

Machine‑scrub floors, rinse and finish. Thoroughly sweep, damp mop and buff hard‑floor surfaces. Operate freight elevator, remove rubbish from freight elevator lobbies, and sweep/mop freight lobbies. Dispose of rubbish in proper containers (wet or dry).

Qualifications
  • Prior office cleaning experience or similar environment.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment in custodial work.
  • Meet all schedules and timelines.
  • Understand and follow work directions as provided by supervisor.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Follow tenant requests and work cooperatively with others.
  • Observe health and safety regulations.
  • Use two‑way radio to receive information and assignments.
  • Ability to stand/walk and use hands for grasping, bending, squatting, crawling, lifting, reaching, and working around machinery.
  • Exposure tolerance to temperature changes, dust, and chemical fumes.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands include occasionally walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and tools, reaching, balancing, stooping, crouching, bending, talking, hearing, and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. The work environment is usually moderate noise level.
