Overview
Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
PositionMaintenance Technician
ContextThe Maintenance Technician is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building and grounds and performing minor repairs. The employee will primarily work in a residential housing shelter environment. Responsibilities may occur indoors or outdoors depending on shelter needs. The environment may be fast-paced and require adaptability to changing situations.

Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED with 1 year custodial and/or maintenance experience.
- Good communication skills.
- Clean all areas and dispose of garbage in accordance with the facility schedule.
- Provide general interior and exterior maintenance (examples: floor stripping, power washing, plaster or sheetrock repairs, painting, lightbulb changing).
- Maintain the facility landscape and perimeter (examples: lawn mowing, shrub trimming, snow removal, debris removal).
- Complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Accept and transport deliveries of supplies, furniture, and other program materials. Assemble furniture and equipment and maintain in working condition.
- Assist in inventory control.
- Be available and provide back-up in emergency situations.
This position is physically active and requires regular mobility. The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch throughout the day. The role also requires the ability to lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
