New York – Tax Associate (Transactional) (Mid-Level)
A top-tier international law firm is seeking a mid-level Tax Associate (4–5 years’ experience) to join its New York Tax Group. This opportunity will appeal to associates currently in Am Law or peer Big Law environments who are looking to deepen their technical tax practice while gaining broader exposure and responsibility within a collaborative, partner-led team.
The PracticeThe Tax Group is an integral part of the firm’s transactional platform, advising on the tax aspects of complex M&A, private equity, fund formations, financings, restructurings, and cross-border transactions. Rather than operating as a narrow specialist group, the team works closely with corporate, finance, real estate, and litigation colleagues on high-value, market-leading matters.
Associates are trusted early with meaningful responsibility, including direct client interaction and hands‑on involvement in deal structuring and execution. The group is known for its intellectual depth, practical commercial advice, and collegial culture, offering a strong alternative to more rigid or siloed Big Law environments.
Why This Role- Exposure to sophisticated, multi‑jurisdictional matters without being confined to a single deal type
- Greater partner access and visibility than is typical in larger tax groups
- A platform that values technical excellence alongside commercial judgment
- Clear commitment to associate development, mentorship, and long-term progression
- 4–5 years’ tax experience at a major law firm (will consider those slightly above or below this range)
- Strong grounding in U.S. federal income tax (corporate and/or partnership)
- Experience supporting M&A, private equity, funds, or finance transactions
- Excellent drafting skills and comfort advising internal deal teams
