Location: New York
Whats App is seeking a highly motivated and versatile team player to serve as Associate General Counsel, Product, for Whats App. The role requires experience in applying complex, evolving legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services and influencing compliance and regulatory strategy with other legal teams across Meta. This role will focus on supporting Whats App consumer initiatives across a number of products and services.
The ideal candidate will have the skills to work proactively and independently with various teams across the organization, including Product, Engineering, Policy, Communications and Marketing, and have experience advising on product risks in a fast‑paced business environment with a rapidly‑evolving legal and regulatory landscape.
- Drive and support high‑profile and high‑impact projects involving legal analysis and compliance with cross‑functional stakeholders across Whats App’s business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other cross‑functional teams, covering many subject areas, including consumer and data protection laws and regulations
- Oversee outside counsel relationships
- Lead and coordinate with public policy and communications colleagues on external communication, policy development, and enforcement decisions
- Help to set, implement and improve the strategy and vision for advising and partnering with business teams
- Directly manage client relationships with the business
- J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent)
- Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in‑house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location)
- 8+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in‑house or government experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, privacy programs and industry guidelines
- Diligent, proactive, collaborative partner who has demonstrated sound legal and business judgment and strategic thinking
- Experience working on multiple projects in a deadline‑focused environment, delivering practical advice under pressure
- Experience communicating legal advice to clients at varying levels
- Experience taking on projects involving different subject matters, and working with cross‑functional organizations to drive alignment
- Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills
- Effective communication skills
- Significant experience with product, privacy, or regulatory counseling related to global privacy and AI‑related laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media, internet and technology companies

Compensation$202,000/year to $274,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
