About the RoleThe Associate Director of AI Governance will lead the development and execution of the firm’s AI governance framework, ensuring compliance with evolving legal and ethical standards, including AI safety and responsible use of AI. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive AI governance framework aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities & Qualifications- Establish and maintain policies, guidelines, and documentation for the responsible development and deployment of AI tools, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate AI governance into existing compliance and risk management processes and ensure AI practices comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks.
- Review and respond to AI‑related provisions in engagement terms and outside counsel guidelines from clients.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to internal teams and clients on AI governance and compliance matters.
- Engage with firm clients as necessary to answer questions related to the responsible use of generative AI and the firm’s AI governance framework.
- Protect and maintain any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information retained by Latham & Watkins.
- Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal skills, interacting effectively with people at all organizational levels.
- Display a strong understanding and experience with emerging technologies, including generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and their practical applications in a legal or corporate environment.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of relevant AI and privacy legislation, including the EU AI Act and GDPR.
- A law degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to at least one U.S. State Bar.
- A minimum of ten years of relevant professional services or industry experience.
