Description The Counsel, North America role will be part of a highly motivated legal team responsible for providing legal advice and support to all the brands in the North America region within The Estee Lauder Companies, focused on retailers, distributors, consumers, and salons.
Key Responsibilities- Advise and counsel all levels within the company’s North America team and Aveda business, including senior leadership, to identify critical legal issues, assess potential legal options, and provide individuals and teams with an analysis and range of possible legal solutions
- Structure, draft, negotiate, and/or review a variety of commercial contracts, such as retailer agreements, distribution agreements, amenities agreements, pure play e‑commerce agreements, and franchising
- Strive for work efficiency with solution to build or improve operation process
- Collaborate with legal and business subject matter experts to advise on cross‑functional projects
- Assist with due diligence for potential acquisitions and assist with integration matters for newly acquired brands
- Collaborate on litigation matters related to commercial activity
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree; licensed or eligible to practice in New York
- 8+ years of experience, including law firm and ideally in‑house counsel experience
- Fluent in both written and conversational English
- Strong ability to think strategically and creatively to resolve matters effectively and efficiently and to build strong collaborative relationships with senior management, as well as business leaders and other colleagues in various functions
- Excellent legal and business judgment; a high degree of discretion; and excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills
- Someone who strives for excellence in execution and follow‑through, including excellent transactional drafting and negotiation skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, adapt to changing conditions, and execute in a complex matrixed environment
- Experience with in the cosmetics industry or consumer products industry, not required but desirable
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $ to $. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program as well as participation in the share incentive plan.
