Criminal Defense Attorney (State and Federal Practice)

Confidential, well-established law firm is seeking a motivated and experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join its growing practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants meaningful courtroom experience, direct involvement in cases, and the ability to work closely with senior leadership on complex criminal matters.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience handling criminal cases from inception through resolution, including motion practice, hearings, and trial participation. Experience with state criminal matters is required; exposure to federal criminal defense is a plus.

Why Join This Opportunity?

This firm offers a supportive and collaborative environment where attorneys are encouraged to take ownership of their work while receiving direct mentorship. You will work closely with an experienced senior attorney on significant cases, gain exposure to a wide range of criminal matters, and continue building your litigation and trial skills.

The firm values professionalism, client advocacy, and balance. Team members benefit from a collegial culture, opportunities for growth, and the ability to make a meaningful impact while advancing their careers.

This role is ideal for an attorney seeking long-term professional development in a firm that invests in its people and their success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft, file, and argue motions effectively in state criminal courts; assist in federal matters with a strong focus on research and written advocacy.
  • Manage case preparation including discovery, hearings, and trial participation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, providing guidance and managing expectations throughout the legal process.
  • Work closely and communicate directly with the senior partner on significant cases, while independently handling routine to moderately complex matters.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and prepare high-quality written legal documents for both state and federal cases.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and improvement in criminal defense practice.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience practicing criminal law, including motion practice, hearings, and trial work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially client-facing communication.
  • Ability to conduct detailed legal research and produce clear, well-written legal documents.
  • Interest in continuous learning and professional growth within criminal defense.
  • Experience or willingness to engage in federal criminal defense work is a strong plus.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience is required.
