Position: Business Development & Marketing Manager (Law Firm Experience)
Location: New York

Source Pro Search is seeking an experienced Business Development & Marketing Manager with a sophisticated understanding of legal marketing and business development. Knowledge of litigation practices is a plus. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of business development and marketing experience within a law firm. A four-year college degree is required, with a JD or MBA preferred. Supervisory experience is also a plus.

The ideal candidate will support the firm’s business development efforts for the firm’s leading complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, real estate litigation, and white‑collar and antitrust practices. The Business Development & Marketing Manager will report to and work closely with the Director of Business Development & Marketing to ensure that the business development initiatives help drive overall firm strategy and are coordinated across the other firm practice areas.

The Business Development Manager will help support other practice areas as necessary, to cover the business development team’s workload.

Strategy
  • Work closely with partners to develop individual business plans; regularly, assertively and proactively follow up with partners to implement their plans.
  • Research existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry trends to help partners take advantage of business development opportunities.
  • Work closely with partners to expand their existing client relationships.
  • Identify cross‑selling opportunities within firm’s existing client base and work closely with partners to expand these relationships.
  • Strategize with Director and lawyers on practice group business development plans and initiatives.
Pitches & Proposals
  • Working closely with partners, manage responses for pitches, proposals, presentations and RFPs for practice area and firm‑wide business development activity.
  • Draft tailored proposal letters and other business development correspondence for partners.
Events
  • Proactively research, evaluate and recommend conferences, events and speaking engagement opportunities to build brand awareness and provide relationship building opportunities for the partners.
  • Assist with the development of mailing lists for events. Coordinate event logistics with other marketing department members.
Marketing Materials
  • Maintain and update practice group and industry descriptions, experience lists, web content and other collateral materials.
Thought Leadership
  • Encourage partners to increase thought leadership; help coordinate the development and distribution of published articles and client alerts.
Award and Survey Submissions
  • Prepare award and survey submissions for respective practice groups. Surveys include Chambers, Legal 500 and Benchmark Litigation, among others.
PR
  • Propose and draft firm news about case wins and attorney accolades for complex commercial litigators.
  • Coordinate PR opportunities with other members of the marketing team and outside agency to build profile of respective practice groups and partners.
Other
  • Work closely with new lateral hires to help integrate them with the firm.
What You’ll Bring :
  • Sophisticated understanding of legal marketing and business development. Litigation practice knowledge a plus.
  • Four‑year college degree required; JD or MBA a plus.
  • Outgoing, positive and proactive approach to working closely with partners on business development initiatives.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, team player, client focused, solution oriented.
  • Ability to add value in partner meetings and provide proactive guidance to partners on business development opportunities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including an ability to prioritize, meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a collaborative team member.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • 8+ years law firm business development and marketing experience.
  • Supervisory experience a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills. Familiarity with Adobe software including InDesign and Photoshop, website content management software, CRM software and HTML also helpful.
