Job Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished prosecutor to serve as Bureau Chief for the Special Victims Bureau in the Queens District Attorney's Office.

Responsibilities

Lead the Special Victims Bureau, investigating and prosecuting felony cases involving sexual assault, child physical abuse, and violence against the elderly. Manage a staff of senior assistants, paralegals, and detectives, and be readily available to the District Attorney, Chief Assistant, and Executive of the Special Prosecutions Division.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of experience as a prosecutor.
  • Extensive jury trial experience, including numerous special victims cases.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication, and team‑management skills.
  • Availability 24/7 for emergencies and support of riders and backup riding supervisors.
  • J.D. degree, active member of the New York State Bar in good standing, and at least 15 years post‑J.D. experience.
  • Expertise in all aspects of trials and complex litigation, including mastery of evidence rules, multiple‑defendant cases, collaborating defendants, expert witnesses, and various hearings such as Frye, Sirois, Mosley, and suppression hearings.
  • Proficiency in forensic DNA, sexual assault evidence kit analyses, forensic toxicology, medical records, abusive head trauma investigations, latent print analysis, ballistics, and electronic data analysis.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Brady/Giglio discovery obligations, CPL 730 procedures, competency issues, and psychiatric defenses.
  • Deep familiarity with New York Penal Law articles 130, 263, 120, and 260 relating to sex crimes, child and elder assault, and endangering the welfare of incompetent or disabled persons.
  • Understanding of the statute of limitations applicable to PL 130 crimes.
  • Skill in assessing child witness swear ability and using forensic experiential trauma interviewing techniques.
  • Experience in conducting Sex Offender Registration Act risk assessment hearings and related matters.
  • Familiarity with Child Advocacy Center operations, SAFE examination protocols, and multidisciplinary team responsibilities.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary responses to special victims cases, coordinating prosecutors, police, child protective services, medical treatment providers, victim advocates, and mental health counselors.
  • Experience as an instructor, presenter, professor, or trainer on legal topics related to special victims cases.
Salary

$202,731 per year.
