Overview
The Watchmaker - Shop Foreman serves as the in-store technical authority for all aspects of mechanical performance, diagnostics, and service quality at the Rolex 5th Avenue flagship. This role provides expert evaluation, advanced technical intervention when required, and final quality assurance to ensure every timepiece meets Rolex’s exacting standards before being returned to the client. The Watchmaker supports Service and Client Advisors with authoritative technical insight, enhances the client experience through clear and confident communication, and upholds the highest levels of craftsmanship, precision, and brand integrity within the service environment.
Responsibilities- Client Support & Technical Authority – Serve as the in-store technical expert, supporting Client and Service Advisors by providing authoritative guidance on mechanical function, condition, and required services.
- – Perform advanced technical assessments when a watch requires evaluation beyond the scope of a Technician, including diagnosing movement irregularities, complication performance, lubrication issues, escapement behavior, and abnormal rate deviation.
- – When requested, participate in client-facing moments to explain technical findings, educate clients on proper care, and reinforce the brand’s high standards of craftsmanship and service.
- Movement-Level Service Capability – (Performed as needed; not expected to be a daily workflow at 5th Ave)
- Execute complete mechanical overhauls in accordance with Rolex standards, including disassembly, inspection, cleaning, lubrication, reassembly, adjustment, and casing.
- Perform intermediate movement interventions as required.
- Conduct post-service regulation and precision adjustments using approved timing instrumentation.
- In-Store Technical Work & Quality Control – Oversee and perform advanced in-store maintenance tasks when required, including water-resistance testing using Rolex-approved equipment, case and bracelet preparation, and final functional checks.
- Carry out comprehensive quality control evaluations on watches serviced off-site or internally by Technicians, confirming compliance with Rolex quality control standards.
- Serve as the final technical sign-off for repairs prior to client delivery.
- Technical Oversight & Team Collaboration – Provide guidance to Technicians on diagnostic approach, proper tool usage, contamination avoidance, and brand-approved technical procedures.
- Support ongoing training efforts by sharing best practices, demonstrating proper techniques, and reinforcing Rolex service standards.
- Partner with Store Service Director and Retail leadership to ensure technical workflows align with operational needs, client expectations, and Rolex protocols.
- Tools, Equipment & Compliance – Maintain personal and shared watchmaking tools in excellent condition, ensuring calibration accuracy and adherence to Rolex tooling requirements.
- Uphold a clean, organized, and secure workshop environment that meets Rolex safety, cleanliness, and process standards.
- Ensure all service actions follow Rolex-approved procedures, documentation rules, and quality guidelines.
- Monitoring parts usage, evaluating when parts must be replaced, and maintaining an organized and accurate inventory system to support efficient service workflows.
- Formal watchmaking training (CW21, SAWTA, WOSTEP, or equivalent)
or comparable professional bench experience;
Rolex certification preferred or willingness to obtain. - Strong technical proficiency in mechanical watch repair, diagnostics, regulation, and quality control, with a commitment to continuous development.
- Ability to deliver meticulous, detail-oriented work while adhering to Rolex service standards, tooling requirements, and documentation practices.
- Professionalism and confidence in occasional client-facing interactions, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly when needed.
- Collaborative mindset with a willingness to support, guide, and mentor Technicians, and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Flexibility to work a retail-aligned schedule and thrive in a fast-paced flagship environment while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship.
