Executive Underwriter / AVP, Underwriting Director – National Accounts Excess Casualty

Zurich North America is seeking an experienced executive underwriter or AVP/Underwriting Director for National Account Excess Casualty.

Location:

AM - New York (Hybrid). The position is based at the Zurich office but offers a flexible hybrid schedule, requiring presence three days per week.

• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
• Demonstrate specialized knowledge in National Account underwriting.
• Conduct detailed opportunity assessments with distributors to identify growth.
• Contribute to proposal development and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters.
• Qualify accounts in line with organizational appetite and business opportunities.
• Make agent/broker/customer and on‑site calls with a clear purpose.
• Negotiate terms & conditions and close deals.
• Cross‑sell other lines to increase product density.
• Participate in sales team meetings related to assigned brokers and/or territory.
• Manage qualified opportunity list 90–120 days prior to effective date.
• Develop strong broker and client networks in relevant industries.

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area, OR
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years in claims or underwriting support area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with associate degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with associate degree, 8+ years in claims or underwriting support area, AND
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working under time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area, OR
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 14+ years in claims or underwriting support area, OR
• Zurich approved apprenticeship program with associate degree and 5+ years in underwriting or market‑facing area, OR
• Zurich approved apprenticeship program with associate degree, 12+ years in claims or underwriting support area, AND
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Experience with umbrella underwriting.

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• CPCU.
• Advanced knowledge of National Account Excess Casualty product lines.
• Knowledge of National Account Primary Casualty and loss‑sensitive programs.
• Strong broker/customer relationships.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Results‑oriented mindset.

Salary Range: $98,300–$213,000 annually. Executive Underwriter: $98,300–$161,000; AVP/Underwriting Director: $130,000–$213,000. Short‑term incentive bonus eligibility: 15% for Executive, 20% for AVP.
