AI Internal Tool Engineer

Remote EMEA

Full-time

What would your job be like at Scilife

As an AI Internal Tool Engineer at Scilife, you will be the person who turns our AI‑first vision into everyday reality. Your job is to find opportunities across the company where AI can automate work, eliminate manual effort, or make people more effective—and then build the tools that make it happen.

This is not a traditional engineering role. You won't be working on the product codebase or shipping features to customers. Instead, you will focus entirely on internal automation: building AI‑powered workflows, integrations, and tools that help Scilife teams work faster and smarter. Think of it as being the in‑house engineer for how we work, not what we sell.

You will work closely with the CTO and be an active member of the AI Committee, helping champion AI adoption across all departments. The scope spans everything from Slack bots and document automation to data pipelines and agentic workflows. If a task is repetitive, manual, or slow—it's your problem to solve.

This role is well suited to an engineer who loves building things quickly, iterating based on real feedback, and exploring what's possible with the latest AI capabilities. We value speed, curiosity, and practical impact over perfect architecture.

Key Responsibilities Identify Automation Opportunities
  • Work with teams across Scilife (Engineering, Product, Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, HR, Finance) to understand their workflows and pain points.
  • Proactively identify where AI and automation can eliminate manual work, reduce errors, or speed up processes.
  • Prioritize opportunities based on impact and feasibility, and maintain a pipeline of automation ideas.
Build Internal AI Tools
  • Design and build AI‑powered tools, integrations, and workflows for internal use:
Slack bots, browser extensions, document processors, data analysis pipelines, and more.
  • Integrate LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock) into practical solutions that colleagues actually use day to day.
  • Iterate quickly based on user feedback—ship early, improve often.
Champion AI Adoption
  • Be an active member of the AI Committee, contributing ideas and driving initiatives.
  • Help colleagues across the company discover and adopt AI tools effectively.
  • Document what you build, share learnings, and create examples that inspire others to experiment.
Experiment and Stay Current
  • Keep up with the rapidly evolving AI landscape: new models, tools, frameworks, and techniques.
  • Evaluate new AI capabilities and assess their potential for internal use at Scilife.
  • Run small experiments to test ideas before committing to full builds.
What you will need Must have:
  • Technical fluency: you understand how software systems work (APIs, data formats, authentication, scripting) and can build functional tools with the help of AI coding assistants. You don't need to be an expert in any specific language, but you need enough technical depth to know when something is right, wrong, or fragile.
  • Hands‑on experience building with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, or similar) or AI‑powered tools and workflows.
  • A portfolio or track record of building AI‑powered tools, automations, or integrations; personal projects count.
  • Bias toward action: you ship fast, learn from what breaks, and improve on the go.
  • Strong communication skills—you will need to understand workflows by talking to people, not just coding in isolation.
  • Curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for AI and automation. This field moves fast; you need to enjoy keeping up.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction while keeping stakeholders informed.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience building Slack integrations, browser extensions, or workflow automation tools.
  • Familiarity with RAG architectures, embeddings, and vector databases.
  • Experience with agent frameworks or agentic AI patterns.
  • Exposure to regulated industries (life sciences, medical devices, pharma).
  • Familiarity with our tech stack: PHP, Go, AWS, Docker.
  • Experience with no‑code/low‑code platforms for rapid prototyping.
