Founding Engineer

Claira is an AI-powered deal intelligence platform built for private market investors. We transform complex financial and legal documents into structured, decision-ready data, enabling hedge funds, private credit, and private equity firms to accelerate deal velocity, deepen insights, and strengthen risk analysis. Claira is building the AI-native operating system for the next generation of investors. We are looking for a brilliant Engineer to join as a Founding Member.

We are looking for a Founding Engineer / Hands-on Software Engineer to join our core team in New York City. This is a highly impactful role. You will work directly with the founders to design, build, and scale the core product and technical platform.

This is not a narrow role. You will operate across the stack, influence architectural direction, own major systems end-to-end, and help establish the engineering culture and standards as the company scales.

• Architect, build, and own core components of Claira’s AI-powered document intelligence platform
• Collaborate closely with product, data, and business stakeholders to translate real customer problems into robust technical solutions
• Work hands-on across the stack (backend, infrastructure, and frontend)
• Lead technical design discussions and set long-term engineering direction
• Establish best practices around system design, code quality, testing, reliability, and security
• Optimize systems for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability as customer usage grows
• Mentor engineers as the team expands and contribute to building a high-ownership, high-impact engineering culture

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally including early-stage or high-growth environments
• Comfort operating across the stack and jumping between product, architecture, and execution
• Familiarity with AI development tools like Cursor, Claude Code or Github Copilot
• Strong computer science fundamentals and proven experience designing and scaling production systems
• Experience with LLM/AI-enabled products

• Ability to operate with ambiguity, move quickly, and make high-quality technical decisions
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with founders, product, and customers

• Cloud-native infrastructure (AWS and GCP)
