Systems Engineer, Cloud Computing

Position SummaryThe Cloud Solutions Architect owns the cloud platform for the WAC Group’s new smart products. The ideal candidate will architect the cloud backend from the ground up, drive technical decisions across teams, and serve as the technical point of contact for customers and partners. The individual in this role will also support the existing residential cloud platform as needed. This role requires strong hands-on expertise across the full product lifecycle developing smart connected products for commercial and residential markets.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with firmware, mobile, application, and solutions teams to define system architecture, integration patterns, and technology selections that align with product and business objectives.
- Evaluate, recommend, and standardize cloud services, frameworks, and architectural patterns to meet performance, scalability, reliability, and cost targets.
- Implement best practices for CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, code governance, and release management to ensure reliable and repeatable cloud deployments.
- Design and maintain monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting systems to proactively manage cloud and device performance, uptime, and reliability.
- Architect solutions that scale horizontally and vertically to meet customer demand, while adhering to security, regulatory, and enterprise reliability requirements.
- End-to-End Ownership: Own full accountability for the cloud platform’s architecture, reliability, security, and performance—proactively identify risk and drive resolution.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Align firmware, application, Dev Ops, and product teams around cohesive architectural decisions that serve both technical and business objectives.
- Customer-Centered Execution: Communicate complex technical concepts clearly, build trust with customers and partners, and deliver solutions that meet real-world performance.
- Technical Excellence & Rigor: Set and enforce high standards for scalability, observability, security, and operational discipline.
- Systems Thinking & Intellectual Curiosity: Understand the full IoT ecosystem and anticipate downstream impacts. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and architectural trade-offs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related area of study.
- 8-10 years of software development experience, including 5+ years architecting and operating production cloud systems (AWS strongly preferred).
- Deep knowledge of IoT communication patterns and protocols (MQTT, HTTP, Web Socket), device shadow/state management, and secure edge-to-cloud integration.
- Proven experience designing and operating scalable, production-grade serverless and microservices architectures.
- Experience defining SLAs/SLOs, implementing monitoring frameworks, and leading disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Proven strength in understanding distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and modern software design principles. (SOLID, Clean Architecture).
- Experience designing and optimizing SQL and No
SQL data models (Dynamo
DB, Aurora/RDS preferred). - Mandarin language proficiency (verbal and written) is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally based on business need.
