Position DescriptionSeeking a Senior Mainframe Modernization Analyst to support a large-scale legacy system transformation initiative. This role focuses on analyzing COBOL-based mainframe systems, extracting embedded business logic, and developing data remediation programs and SQL scripts to enable successful migration to modern platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with mainframe technologies, data conversion, and system modernization, along with strong documentation skills to translate complex legacy logic into clear technical and functional specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze COBOL programs and legacy mainframe code to identify business rules and system logic.
- Document system workflows, data structures, and processing logic for modernization teams.
- Develop SQL scripts and data remediation programs for data cleansing and transformation.
- Perform data mapping between legacy systems and modern target architectures.
- Validate migrated datasets for accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
- Support and stabilize production mainframe systems during modernization phases.
- Utilize mainframe utilities such as VSAM, DFSORT, IDCAMS, SAR View, QMF, SPUFI, and File Manager.
- Produce comprehensive documentation including system logic and workflows, data mapping specifications, and conversion and remediation plans.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with developers, system integrators, and cross‑functional project teams.
- Participate in Agile or hybrid modernization efforts and knowledge transfer sessions.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, including stored procedures and data remediation scripting.
- Extensive experience supporting legacy mainframe production systems.
- Strong expertise in COBOL 6.4, CICS TS, and DB2 (v12.1).
- Hands‑on experience with VSAM, DFSORT, IDCAMS, SAR View, QMF, SPUFI, File Manager, and CA Intertest.
- Proven experience with data mapping, system conversion, and migration initiatives.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Ability to translate complex legacy logic into functional and technical documentation.
- Experience with CICS Web Interface, web services, or API integrations.
- Experience with MQ or messaging platforms.
- Familiarity with Java, C++, or Python.
- Experience supporting utility or work management systems.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
- Proficiency with Visio and PowerPoint for technical documentation.
