About the RoleOur client is seeking a Mid-to-Senior Level Data Engineer / Data Governance / Enterprise Data Management who possesses a strong background and genuine passion for Data Governance to join a growing enterprise data team in New York City.
This is NOT a traditional pipeline builder role!! While modern data engineering skills are important, the primary focus of this position is data governance, access control, data stewardship, and responsible data enablement across a complex, multi-institutional environment
.
The organization is actively integrating data across 3-major institutions and each of them have different standards, access rules, risk tolerances, and definitions of sensitive data.
Governance is what makes this integration safe, scalable, and strategic. The team is embarking on a Data Monetization program, and Governance will be the foundation that determines what data can be used, by whom, and under what controls.
What You’ll Be Responsible ForData Governance & Stewardship (Primary Focus)
- Design and implement Governance frameworks that define who can access what data — and why.
- Establish policies around PHI classification, data sensitivity tiers, and domain-based access.
- Partner with security, compliance, and business leaders to align governance controls with regulatory and operational needs.
- Define data lineage, ownership, stewardship, and accountability models.
Help answer critical questions such as:
- Who should see what data?
- What level of PHI is appropriate per domain?
- How do we harmonize policies across historically independent institutions?
- Implement role-based and attribute-based access controls.
- Ensure proper separation of sensitive datasets.
- Collaborate with Info Sec and Compliance Teams to minimize risk exposure.
- Prevent governance gaps that could create liability in a unified data platform.
- Work with Data Engineers to align governance with ingestion and transformation processes.
- Ensure data products are compliant by design.
- Contribute to scalable governance models within Snowflake and other modern data platforms.
- 5–10+ years in Data Engineering, Data Governance, or Enterprise Data Management
- Demonstrated experience implementing Data Governance Frameworks, not just documentation but actual enforcement.
- Data Classification
- PHI (Protected Health Information / HIPAA-aligned controls)
- Access Management
- Metadata Management
- Experience working in complex, regulated environments such as Healthcare or Finance
- Comfortable working onsite in NYC 4 days per week (Hybrid Model)
- Snowflake experience is a nice-to-have, but not a blocker
- Exposure to Snowflake or similar modern cloud data warehouses is preferred
- The ideal candidate is not intimidated by Snowflake and understands how governance is implemented within modern cloud platforms
- This is fundamentally a Data Governance-focused role, not a Snowflake tuning position.
- Competitive base salary plus performance bonus.
- First-class medical, dental, and vision benefits.
- Generous PTO.
- 401(k) with company match.
- Career growth within a rapidly expanding enterprise data organization.
- Opportunity to help shape governance strategy during a transformative data integration initiative.
