Lead Network Repair Engineer - Data Center

Insight Global is seeking a Network Repair Engineer – Data Center (Regional Lead) to support a rapidly scaling AI infrastructure organization. This role centers on hands‑on physical network repair, onsite diagnostics, and ownership of break/fix activity across a regional datacenter campus.

You will be the primary technical resource for fiber, optics, power, and hardware remediation, ensuring rapid issue resolution and maintaining physical network health. The position offers long‑term growth into more advanced engineering responsibilities as the organization expands.

• Perform daily physical repair work inside the data center, including fiber remediation, optic replacements, cable repair, and hardware swaps.
• Diagnose issues at the physical layer and resolve onsite incidents quickly and efficiently.
• Coordinate RMAs, parts availability, vendor scheduling, and repair logistics.
• Use tools such as OTDR, VFL, and optical meters to validate link health and troubleshoot faults.
• Develop, maintain, and improve physical repair workflows, documentation, and runbooks.
• Write basic Python scripts to streamline repetitive repair-related tasks (ticket updates, bulk actions, workflow automation).
• Serve as regional point of contact for physical network health and repair execution.
• Support physical expansions, migrations, and infrastructure changes within the data center.
• Mentor junior technicians and contractors as the team scales.

• 5+ years working full‑time inside a data center in a hands‑on repair or break/fix role.
• Deep experience repairing:
  • Fiber (SM/MM)
  • Optics/transceivers
  • Power components
  • Network hardware (line cards, cages, cabling)
• Strong troubleshooting ability at the physical layer using optical diagnostic tools.
• Experience managing RMAs, parts logistics, and onsite vendor coordination.
• Ability to write and use simple Python scripts for workflow efficiency.
• Comfortable working independently and spending significant time on the data center floor.
• Within ½‑day travel to Buffalo or Abernathy and able to travel 30–40%. Experience in colocation or hyperscale data center environments.
• Prior lead or supervisory responsibilities in repair or field engineering.
• Familiarity with fiber plant tools, cabling standards, and structured cabling environments.
• Interest in progressing toward more advanced engineering responsibilities over time.
