Staff Product Manager – News Work Tracking & Collaboration Platform

The Staff Product Manager is responsible for CNN's next‑generation news work tracking and collaboration platform, the foundational system that enables our newsroom to coordinate story development, asset production, and cross‑team workflows at a global scale. You will define and realize the platform strategy and requirements that serves as the connective tissue across our news and media teams. This role requires familiarity with newsroom workflows and the ability to develop platform capabilities to deliver measurable improvements in editorial efficiency and coordination.

Your

Role Accountabilities
  • Execute and iterate on the platform strategy for an editorial work tracking system with real‑time collaboration and visibility capabilities.
  • Partner with leaders, engineers, designers, and newsroom stakeholders to understand complex workflows across varied teams with different ways of working to streamline story production, reduce work duplication, and improve cross‑team coordination.
  • Design and deliver core platform capabilities that create comprehensive visibility into work‑in‑flight across the organization.
  • Drive platform adoption across many editorial teams by creating exceptional user experiences, comprehensive documentation, training materials, and adoption strategies, treating journalists, editors, and producers as your primary customers.
  • Establish platform success metrics including adoption rates across teams, productivity improvements (time‑to‑publish, reduced duplication), system reliability, and user satisfaction using data insights to drive continuous improvement and demonstrate business impact.
  • Shape integration strategy with a range of content management systems and enterprise systems to facilitate multidirectional data flow and seamless workflows that aid editorial planning and content programming coordination.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on editorial work tracking and collaboration platforms and present platform strategy to executive audiences, manage cross‑team product dependencies, and advocate for platform investments alongside customer‑facing product initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 8+ years of product management experience with 2+ years on B2B collaboration platforms, workflow tools, or editorial/content production systems at scale.
  • Editorial or newsroom workflow experience addressing content production and the unique needs of editorial teams working across multiple formats (text, video, graphics), geographies, and tight deadlines.
  • Experience in platform and systems thinking, especially to support diverse team workflows, heterogeneous metadata structures, and cross‑team coordination and collaboration. Highly preferred experience includes technical depth regarding APIs, data models, content management systems, real‑time collaboration technologies, and integration patterns, all to collaborate on architectural decisions with Engineering partners.
  • Experience with complex stakeholder management and exceptional ability to navigate competing priorities and feedback across multiple stakeholder teams and engineering organizations. A background that includes work in a consulting or professional services capacity will be an asset.
  • A track record of effective user research and empathy on work tracking workflow pain points, and driving high platform adoption through superior user experience with Product Design partners.
  • Data‑driven platform product management defining and tracking platform metrics (adoption by team, content throughput, workflow efficiency, system performance) to inform prioritization and demonstrate ROI regarding work tracking capabilities or products.
