Gov Well is hiring a Data Scientist to play a critical role in how governments transition to modern systems. You’ll sit at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and customer experience — leading migrations from legacy software, building scalable data workflows, and ensuring that agencies can quickly unlock value from Gov Well’s platform. This role reports directly to Ben Cohen, Co-Founder and CTO, and offers the chance to shape the foundations of Gov Well’s data function while working closely with Product, Engineering, and Deployment teams.

We have a hybrid work culture that combines regular in-person collaboration at our New York City office (3+ days per week) with flexibility to work remotely.

• Lead high-impact customer data migrations, ensuring smooth, accurate transitions from legacy systems into Gov Well’s modern platform.

• Build and maintain scalable data onboarding workflows using Python, SQL, and tools like Airflow and Hex to automate transformation, validation, and loading.

• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Deployment teams to design and improve data processes that accelerate customer onboarding and adoption.

• Partner directly with government staff to understand their data models, map schemas, and resolve edge cases that impact migration success.

• Develop internal tools and templates that standardize and speed up data migration as Gov Well scales.

• Contribute to post-migration analytics by ensuring clean, structured datasets are available for reporting and decision-making.

• 3+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or data engineering, ideally in SaaS or B2B environments

• Proficient in SQL and Python, with experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines (Airflow a plus) and working with large, messy datasets

• Strong grasp of data validation, transformation, and QA, able to turn ambiguous challenges into clear, repeatable workflows

• Comfortable collaborating with customers and cross-functional teams, translating complex findings into plain language

• Detail-oriented, outcome-driven, and motivated by the impact that clean, reliable data has on solving real problems

• Airflow – for managing data migration pipelines

• Hex - your general-purpose data tool for loading, transforming, and QAing data

Compensation within the posted salary band will be commensurate with experience. All offers will include:
