About the role:

Known’s Skeptic team builds the tools that power Known’s media buying practice and elevate the media campaigns of our clients. Our work ranges from predictive modeling/optimization to infrastructure development, and Skeptic’s data scientists and engineers are challenged every day to push the limits of advanced advertising.

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist who can understand the core business objectives of our internal teams and our clients, and develop tools tailored to their use cases. Experience in media is a plus, but not required for the role. The initial project for this role will have a heavy forecasting component and leverage common techniques used for Media Mix Models.

In this role you will work with, and guide, other data scientists on a variety of projects and interface with our other teams  a Senior Data Scientist, you will drive forward some of our most difficult data science projects.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop new techniques (e.g., ML models, optimization algorithms, and automation) to improve Known IP and create tools for Known’s clients
  • Work with other data scientists and engineers to productionalize new tools
  • Collaborate with data visualization experts to build dashboards around forecasts and other model outputs
  • Manage the ingestion and cleaning of new datasets relevant to your work / projects
  • Mentor other data scientists on our team
Who You Are and What You Have
  • Masters or PhD from a well-regarded college or university. STEM degrees are preferred.
  • 5+ years (with Masters) or 3+ years (with PhD) of hands‑on experience doing quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, optimization, and/or statistics. Experience utilizing Python and SQL. Candidates with a Bachelors degree and 7+ years of experience may also be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience building data science software
  • Experience in ad‑tech or media buying is highly desired, specifically with a track record of modeling data from “Walled Garden” social ecosystems
  • A strong grasp of Bayesian statistical methods is a plus. You should be comfortable applying probabilistic thinking to solve real‑world optimization problems, beyond standard frequentist approaches.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
  • Superb communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate business challenges into quantitative problems, and solve them by whatever means necessary, which may not always be strict machine learning
  • Proven ownership of projects taken to completion
  • Commitment to managing the quality & accuracy of analytics, ensuring high standards with your and others’ work
  • Experience working on a tech team, with experience in cloud technologies, version control, etc.
  • Experience in advertising or advertising technology is a plus
  • Applied knowledge of Bayesian inference and probabilistic programming (experience with libraries like PyMC) is a plus
  • Deep understanding of the data structures and optimization levers within social advertising platforms (e.g., bidding strategies, conversion windows, and attribution logic) is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize time, work and effort while multitasking on multiple projects
  • Desire to mentor and teach others

The base salary for this position is $130K - $150K.

This range is posted in compliance with state and municipal Pay Transparency laws. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible to receive additional Known benefits.
