Department of Sanitation (DSNY)

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps the city healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation’s largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other equipment. The department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of city streets and removes debris from vacant lots and abandoned vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Server Team in providing support for various Windows/Linux server technologies under the direction of the server team staff.
  • Configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot security products such as Crowd Strike, Centrify, and McAfee agents across all DSNY Windows and Linux servers.
  • Collaborate with the Security team to monitor server security updates and vulnerability alerts, help document, research, investigate, and provide necessary mitigation steps to resolve the alerts and updates.
  • Familiarize with Service Now or other ITSM tools/software, and assist in creating, tracking, and managing Service Now request tickets and the change management process.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications

Assignment Level I:

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student.

Assignment Level II (Information Technology):

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits.

Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the assignment, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits.
  • Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Unix/Linux/Windows operating environments.
  • Understanding of scripting languages (shell scripting, Python, etc.).
  • Passion for learning new skills and ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team-focused environment.
Additional Requirements

Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes are in session. Students may be employed full-time during vacation periods.

Residency Requirement:
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City employees who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.

Salary

$17.00 – $21.40
