Biometric (Fingerprinting) Technician – On Call

This position is regulated by the DOL under the Service Contract Act, which governs minimum hourly rates, holiday and vacation leave benefits, and Health & Welfare money.
Job Description:
As a Biometric Technician (BT), you will support a government program in Syracuse, NY, assisting USCIS Application Support Center operations. Amentum provides required training. This is a casual, on‑call team member.
On‑Call Availability:
Employees must be available Monday‑Friday, 7:45 am‑4:15 pm for substitute coverage. Hours are not guaranteed; work is on an "as needed" basis.
- Complete biometric registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States.
- Ensure all entrants are approved applicants and visitors, providing crowd control and enforcing ASC policies.
- Provide front‑line customer service as representatives of Amentum and the US Government.
- Perform quality biometric processing: capture electronic fingerprints, photographs, and signatures within established program‑wide processing times.
- Screen applicants entering the facility, ensuring a valid appointment notice and .
- Utilize crowd‑control barriers to ensure safe, organized entry.
- Visually inspect applicants and belongings before entry; ask health‑status questions during health crises.
- Conduct periodic facility checks, reporting concerns to the Site Supervisor.
- Assist Site Supervisor or Immigration Officer in calling local law enforcement or first responders when needed.
- Manage administrative paperwork: track processing times, reconcile biometrics, maintain visitor log, signing off on facility checks.
- Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization; US citizenship required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Ability to stand upright for scheduled shift duration, excluding meals and breaks.
- Ability to hold and grasp applicant’s hands to obtain quality fingerprints.
- Ability to work in a high‑pace environment with the public.
- Basic computer literacy and typing skills.
- Successful completion of biometrics training and certification within 60 days.
- Ability to speak a foreign language.
- Understand the handling of Health & Welfare dollars per eligible hour.
