IT Assistants perform entry‑level professional work in technology‑related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically IT Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATIONFounded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre‑college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree‑seeking students are born outside the United States;
they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first‑generation college students.
Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty‑six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four‑year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. LaGuardia ranked fifth among U.S. community colleges in economic mobility—moving low‑income students into the middle class and beyond—in studies by Stanford University (2017) and the Brookings Institution (2020).

Under the supervision of the IT Associate, the Part‑time Website/ Mobile Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the LaGuardia & Wagner Archives website and mobile applications to ensure they align with our brand, enhance user experience, and support our mission to collect, preserve, and make available primary materials documenting the social and political history of New York City. Reporting to the IT Associate, the IT Assistant will perform, but is not limited to, the following duties:
- Develop, update and maintain the ASP.NET Archives website ensuring high performance and responsiveness;
- Develop and customize Word Press themes, templates, and plugins using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
- Troubleshoot and resolve website performance, security, and user experience issues;
- Work on the development of mobile applications for iOS and Android that will communicate information from the archives to the application user;
- Use mobile programming languages, including Objective-C, Java and or C#, and web programming languages, including HTML, JavaScript, jQuery and web services to build mobile applications;
- Understand object‑oriented concepts and software development methods;
- Maintain web services and databases that feed data to mobile apps using ASP.NET, PHP, and MS SQL Server.
