Job Description - HRIS Specialist - Part Time (2600690)

HRIS Specialist - Part Time Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, an HRIS Specialist will work as part of the HRIS team and will be responsible for writing, designing and/or modifying report queries, preparing and presenting report summaries, dashboards and presentations related to HR and Compensation data. Overall goal is to provide accurate data in a timely manner, while safeguarding sensitive and confidential information.

Duties of a HRIS Specialist
  • Writes and/or modifies report queries in People Soft/Oracle upon request.
  • Works with IT to build more insightful HR dashboards to provide trend and predictive analytics to support strategic initiatives and leadership planning.
  • Utilizes advanced Excel features to create summary and detailed reports and dashboards on the status of HR regulatory requirements.
  • Creates and maintains dashboards, reports, scorecards, and visualizations for operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Builds and schedules standard and ad‑hoc reports for distribution to HR partners and executives.
  • Develops and presents department head and executive‑level presentations on the status of compliance items and/or other HR strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Collects information on needed changes and updates to employee data and makes corrections to ensure data accuracy.
  • Responds to questions related to reports and other queries in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates with other HR units regarding employees who are not compliant with key items such as annual physicals, required education, flu shots, etc.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to streamline and standardize HR data reporting and analytics workflows.
  • Leads or participates in Oracle implementation to improve HRIS processes, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance data access.
  • Documents and refines processes using the HRIS playbook to support adoption of improved procedures.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. At least 3 years of Human Resources experience, including HRIS software experience, complex data aggregation and reporting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced Excel skills including writing and modifying macros, pivot tables, lookup tables, nested IF statements, conditional data formatting, COUNT and SUMIT statements, charts, graphs and other advanced features. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate with clarity and brevity to large and varied audiences up to and including the executive level.

Prior experience writing queries in an HRIS or comparable system.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience writing advanced queries using functions, expressions, inner/outer joins, and other advanced features. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 collaboration tools (Power BI, Teams, SharePoint) and Jira to support reporting, project tracking, cross‑functional collaboration and continuous process improvement initiatives. Familiarity with Press Ganey requirements, Joint Commission requirements, and collective bargaining agreements. Prior experience with People Soft/Oracle HCM. Experience working for Higher Education, Public Employment, or in a diverse and unionized environment.

Experience working in a healthcare environment.
