People Operations Lead

Hybrid | Brooklyn, NY (3+ days/week onsite)

Full-time

Salary: ~125k

Our client, a fast-growing, technology-driven platform and marketplace, is seeking a People Operations Lead to join their team. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a seasoned People/HR professional who thrives in startup environments and enjoys building trusted relationships, strong processes, and inclusive employee experiences.

This role reports to the SVP of Finance & Operations and will serve as the primary owner of the People function.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and manage the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, leaves, accommodations, and performance management
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees and managers on People-related matters, including policies, benefits, and sensitive employee relations issues
  • Oversee payroll, benefits, and HR operations through a PEO (Justworks), ensuring accuracy, compliance, and data integrity
  • Maintain employee records and manage HR systems, reporting, and documentation
  • Ensure People policies and processes are effective, compliant, and consistently applied
  • Partner closely with leadership to support managers and foster a healthy, high-performing culture
  • Plan and support employee engagement initiatives, including team events and offsites
  • Create and deliver clear, thoughtful employee communications across People programs and updates
What We’re Looking For
  • 6+ years of experience in a People Operations, HR Generalist, or HR Business Partner role
  • Hands‑on experience with payroll and benefits administration
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance
  • Experience owning and optimizing HR systems; comfort with data and reporting
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to navigate sensitive conversations
  • Highly organized, proactive, and adaptable; able to balance strategy with detail
  • Startup or high-growth company experience strongly preferred
