Senior Payroll Manager
Location: Hybrid NYC
Salary: $,000
The Opportunity:We are seeking a strategic Senior Payroll Manager to oversee our clients payroll department and spearhead the modernization of our payroll functions. You will be responsible for ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining strict compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who doesn’t just "run" payroll but actively seeks to use technology to create efficiencies and improve the overall employee experience.
Core Responsibilities- Departmental Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor the payroll team. You will manage the daily workflow, set performance standards, and foster a culture of accuracy and accountability.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to modernize payroll systems. You will lead the implementation of new software or procedures to automate manual tasks and reduce errors.
- Compliance & Auditing: Serve as the subject matter expert on wage and hour laws. You will coordinate all payroll-related audits, ensuring all documentation is accurate, organized, and compliant.
- Full-Cycle Oversight: Supervise the processing of all payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and specialized deductions.
- Reporting & Analysis: Maintain secure databases for compensation, bonuses, and worker’s compensation. You will provide high-level reports to leadership regarding payroll trends and variances.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 5–10 years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Technical Mastery: High proficiency with ADP (Workforce Now/RFN) or similar enterprise-level payroll platforms. Advanced Excel skills are essential.
- Compliance Expert: Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws, as well as experience managing internal and external audits.
- Leadership Style: A "hands-on" manager who can balance high-level strategy with a sharp eye for detail.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, HR, or a related field.
