Our client, a faith and community based nonprofit located in the Bronx, is seeking an HR Specialist to join their team. The Human Resources Specialist will play a key role in supporting the full employee lifecycle—from onboarding to offboarding—while ensuring compliance with employment laws, maintaining accurate documentation, and promoting a smooth and supportive employee experience.
Location: Bronx, NY 10451 (On-site)
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $50,000 – $65,000 per year
Key Responsibilities- Onboarding & Offboarding – Assist with new hire processes, documentation, and exit interviews
- Benefits & Policy Administration – Help manage benefits and enforce HR policies
- Legislation Awareness – Stay updated on employment laws and policy enforcement
- Employee Retention & Engagement – Support initiatives for workplace satisfaction, recognition, and culture
- Employee Relations – Assist in disciplinary actions, investigations, and conflict resolution
- Administrative Support – Schedule meetings, manage logistics, and support HR events/projects
- Policy Development – Conduct research and contribute to policy drafting
- Reporting – Generate reports on HR metrics and KPIs for leadership
- Job Posting Management – Manage job ads on platforms like Indeed
- Employment Authorization – Oversee E-Verify processes for new hires
- Preparation – Prepare and distribute badges and welcome new hires
- Document Management – Maintain organized employee records
- Other Duties – Responsibilities may change as needed at employer discretion
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
- 2+ years of HR experience (nonprofit or community-based preferred)
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Proactive “go-getter” mindset with attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Team player who respects diverse perspectives
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; HRIS experience a plus
- Comfortable working in a faith- and community-based organization led by people of color
- Commitment to equity, inclusiveness, and mission-driven service
- Written translation skills are a plus
- Interpersonal skills: 3 years (required)
- Experience working with community professionals, court systems, or nonprofits
- Willingness and ability to commute to Bronx, NY 10451 (required)
