Overview

The Bartender is responsible for the complete set‑up of the bar area and for mixing drinks for all guests and servers. The role maintains service and cleanliness, ensures quality service, guest satisfaction, and control over liquor inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.
  • Set up the bar according to hotel standards and serve guests promptly and efficiently.
  • Prepare beverages and cocktails according to the hotel’s mixing and presentation standards.
  • Serve guests with all beverage requirements in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
  • Break down the bar after functions, storing liquor, supplies, and equipment according to the hotel’s standards.
  • Follow all state liquor laws.
  • Know hotel services and facilities.
  • Abide by all hotel policies and safety rules.
  • Serve liquor with care to avoid problems with intoxicated guests.
  • Respond to guests’ problems, complaints, and accidents.
  • Be familiar with all fire exit locations, fire extinguisher locations, and how to operate them.
  • Keep the bar and service areas clean and tidy during service.
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and/or experience in hotel or related field preferred.
  • Flexible and able to work long hours when required.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently or constantly.
  • Able to stand during the entire shift.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with all levels of employees and guests.
  • Strong listening skills to understand and clarify concerns of employees and guests.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, courteous, service‑oriented manner.
  • Attend all required hotel meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance, grooming, and uniform policy.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to promote safe and efficient operations.
  • Maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Handle problems by anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving them as necessary.
  • Understand and apply complex information from various sources to meet objectives.
  • Cross‑train in other hotel‑related areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
