The Athenaeum Hotel houses the Heirloom Restaurant and the Lobby Lounge. It operates from late April through October for conferences and events and is fully open during the summer season from late June to late August.

Compensation starts at $18.00/hour and may rise to $20.00/hour based on experience and qualifications.

• Complete end‑of‑day processes and post the daily final numbers for the Athenaeum Hotel.
• Operate computers with accounting software to record, summarize, and analyze financial information.
• Receive, audit, and record monies, credit/gift card transactions, and cash or POS sales.
• Debit, credit, and total accounts in Excel while checking for mathematical accuracy. Reconcile and report discrepancies.
• Compile statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables pertaining to cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
• Follow proper cash and credit card handling procedures. Accurately complete paperwork and cash‑out procedures.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of technology solutions used at the front desk.
• Provide overnight guests with excellent customer service while taking reservations, answering questions, and completing check‑in/out procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
• Address guest requests and concerns immediately and always with a professional attitude.
• Answer and transfer all incoming telephone calls using proper telephone etiquette.
• Provide safety and security for the hotel and its guests. Follow the hotel key‑control procedures at all times.

Chautauqua Institution offers a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees who refer a candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90 days from the first physical date of work. For seasonal positions that are less than six months, the new candidate must remain employed for at least 30 days. The season closes on the last Sunday in August.

Seasonal employment offers flexible full‑ or part‑time schedules during the summer months of June through August. Shifts run 8 hours per day, starting at 11 p.m., typically 24–40 hours per week, with evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Pre‑season and post‑season work may be available depending on business needs.

No employer‑provided housing is available. Applicants must secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.

Chautauqua Institution is a non‑profit organization that hosts arts, education, religion, and recreation programs on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York. It operates the Chautauqua Hotel Company as a comprehensive hotel, food & beverage, conference, and events organization.

Employees receive a traditional Chautauqua gate pass, free of charge, granting access to many programs at the Amphitheater.
