9AM-5PM, Monday–Friday.

Primary Purpose of Job

The Peer Mentor’s primary responsibilities are to provide peer support, advocacy, and linkage services to individuals enrolled in the program. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and willing to use lived experience to help others seeking recovery from substance use. The Peer Mentor will work as a fully integrated team member providing culturally responsive peer recovery support services to individuals in the Brooklyn misdemeanor treatment court program.

Principal

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide support for individuals enrolled in the Manhattan Diversion Court programs who are having difficulty connecting to services.
  • Provide a peer-to-peer relationship to support individuals in recovery and families with sustaining recovery and overall wellness, through in-person visits at the office, in the community, or via telehealth.
  • Assist program staff with implementation of treatment goals to help individuals achieve their goals.
  • Escort participants to treatment providers and appointments as needed.
  • Utilize program assessment tools to monitor clients’ mental health/substance use and care needs.
  • Provide information and referrals for social and recovery support services, counseling, and linkages to prevention and treatment.
  • Provide harm reduction education and resources (e.g., Narcan kits, Fentanyl/Xylazine strips) to enrolled individuals.
  • Participate in supervision and team meetings; participate in agency trainings and workshops.
  • Prepare and maintain client case records and statistics as required by EAC grant guidelines.
  • Document services in the NYS Unified Court system and maintain documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate peer-led groups as willing.
  • Perform other duties as determined by Supervision and EAC Network Administration.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or educational equivalent required.
  • NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or Peer credential preferred.
  • Lived experience in substance use and knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and ability to navigate an electronic health record (EHR).
  • Knowledge of substance use disorder recovery process.
  • Understanding of the therapeutic benefits of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).
  • Able to work with diverse populations (ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc.).
  • Commitment to providing quality services and adhering to outcome-driven performance measures.
