We collaborate closely with patient families, NYP healthcare teams, and community-based organizations to create a supportive and engaging environment.
Community Health - Fitness Specialist - Health4
Life Program - Part-Time - Queens
The Fitness Specialist will support the Health4
Life team and the Senior Director of Maternal-Child Services, working closely with the program’s medical lead. This role is integral to implementing and enhancing physical activity programming in both clinical and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Program Support:
- Conduct clinical assessments for Health4
Life patients during weekly clinic sessions. - Serve as the subject matter expert on physical fitness for the interdisciplinary Health4
Life team. - Develop and tailor exercise programs and program materials to support physical activity initiatives.
- Stay current with evidence-based research in physical activity, program development, public health, and education.
- Lead weekly virtual and in-person exercise classes for Health4
Life patients. - Participate in in-person community events, occasionally during evenings and weekends.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners to support program sustainability and visibility.
- Assist with administrative tasks essential to the successful operation of the Health4
Life program. - Responsible for the scheduling of all follow up appointments for clinic patients.
Available for 2 afternoon sessions a week, one day must align with the Health4
Life clinic afternoon.
Preferred Criteria
- Master’s Degree with related course experience and/or work experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience working with elementary and/or adolescent patients and their families in a community setting
- Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation
- Bachelor’s Degree with related course experience and/or work experience
- 2+ years of experience providing clinical assessment and counseling on physical activity or exercise to elementary and/or adolescent patients
- Experience working in a community setting
- Certified Exercise Physiologist or Certified Personal Trainer or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
- BCLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills and a high degree of flexibility
- Ability to function collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.
