Variable Hours Officer - Clinical Coordinator III / Certified Midwife
Position Summary:
We are recruiting an energetic and empathetic Variable Hours Officer / Clinical Coordinator III - Certified Midwife to join our team to provide care to patients on the OB/GYN inpatient service at the Allen Pavilion. The Clinical Coordinator III - Certified Midwife reports administratively to the Division Administrator and clinically to the Collaborating Physician. The Midwife will work under the supervision of the attending physicians to provide full-scope management of care to obstetric patients.
- Patient Care Management and Documentation: participate as a member of the healthcare team and interdisciplinary committees to improve patient care and meet patient needs; obtain and document subjective history; conduct relevant physical exams; identify diagnostic impressions; write prescriptions as allowed by law; formulate goal-directed plans including health maintenance and interventions; assess patient response to treatment; provide health teaching; consult or refer for subspecialty care as appropriate and document follow-up.
- Direct Patient Care: provide full-scope care to patients in the triage unit, on L&D, and on the PP unit; advise the department within the scope of the advanced nursing practice and NYS practice act; demonstrate clinical decision-making in nurse midwifery care; promote patient satisfaction.
- Quality Assurance: conduct reviews of patient records and engage in ongoing peer review, utilization review, competency evaluations, and Medical Board reviews.
- Patient Safety: administer care in accordance with safety, environmental, and infectious control principles; practice per collaborative agreements to include ordering and administering medications, IV fluids, and blood products.
- Patient Rights: awareness of patient rights and responsibilities; understand referral mechanisms and hospital policies on supportive devices.
- Education:
serve as a resource and participate in staff development; provide patient education and counseling; serve as clinical preceptor for students. - Research Studies: participate in quality improvement activities and approved research protocols; evaluate and implement relevant findings.
- Coordination/
Collaboration:
collaborate with nursing staff, medical staff, and other providers; work with the interdisciplinary team to achieve health goals; collaborate with hospital administration on community services. - Other Duties: treat all customers with courtesy and respect; promote a safe, therapeutic environment; acknowledge cultural differences; participate in staff meetings and committees; serve as a professional role model; perform other duties as assigned.
Note:
This position includes inpatient coverage Monday through Sunday (12.5 hours per shift) with day and evening shifts and weekend coverage.
- Master’s degree in a health-related field with certification as a Midwife from an approved program, OR a Master of Science in Nursing with certification as a Midwife from an approved program; plus three years of related experience.
- Current New York State Midwifery License.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to direct work and collaborate with patients and co-workers.
- Must maintain license throughout employment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional demeanor; ability to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, observation, and listening skills.
- 5 years of related experience in OBGYN.
- Computer proficiency with the ability to quickly learn new applications.
