Program Specialist for Healthcare Career Pathways

POSITION DETAILS

The Program Specialist for Healthcare Career Pathways supports the coordination, implementation, and expansion of a growing portfolio of non-degree healthcare credential programs within the Department of Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) in the Office of Academic Affairs at Bronx Community College.

Reporting to the Director of Healthcare Career Pathways, the Program Specialist will play a key role in supporting and expanding Bronx Community College’s unique non-degree course offerings for healthcare professions. This position supports day-to-day operations, coordinates program planning, monitors student progress, facilitates communication between faculty and students, and assists in growing partnerships with healthcare employers and clinical affiliates. The Program Specialist participates in the daily academic and administrative operations of healthcare credential programs, supporting effective program rollout and delivery.

About Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE)

WDCE’s mission is to provide all BCC students—degree and non-degree—with the skills they need to secure employment in their field of study. WDCE offers low- and no-cost training and certifications for community members and BCC students in high-demand sectors. Currently, healthcare is WDCE’s largest and fastest-growing portfolio, encompassing training programs that lead directly to entry-level jobs in the field, continuing education for experienced professionals and students, advanced certificates, and contracted training with employers.

WDCE serves as a front door for employers to BCC, ensuring that degree and training programs are responsive to employer demand and that employers view BCC as a go-to source of talent. Within this context, the Program Specialist contributes to the implementation and ongoing refinement of healthcare credential offerings to ensure alignment with employer needs and workforce demand.

This new role will be pivotal in the launch and scaling of existing and new credential offerings within the healthcare portfolio. It is an exciting opportunity to provide project management support to a fast-paced, motivated team that works daily with students, employers, and faculty.

The Program Specialist supports instructional delivery and program quality by working collaboratively with faculty and program leadership to ensure alignment with credential requirements and program outcomes. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong project management and organizational skills, a proactive mentality, readiness to take initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively in an environment serving both students and employers.

The role also supports outreach, employer engagement, and program visibility efforts in collaboration with WDCE staff. The Program Specialist may oversee full-time and part-time administrative assistants and coordinators, providing day-to-day work coordination for assigned staff supporting healthcare programs, and perform related duties as assigned.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate day-to-day administrative and operational activities for non-degree healthcare training programs to support effective program rollout and delivery, including budgeting, purchasing, instructor onboarding, data collection, and reporting.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of classroom, online, and clinical components in collaboration with faculty and program leadership.
  • Serve as a liaison among students, instructors, advisors, and the Director of Healthcare Career Pathways to facilitate communication and resolve routine program-related issues.
  • Support instructors in aligning course materials, curriculum updates, and instructional activities with program outcomes and certification or examination requirements.
  • Create reports on program progress and outcomes, including student participation, evaluations, surveys, and assessment results.
  • Monitor student progress toward program completion and certification and assist with follow-up and documentation as needed.
  • Support the development and…
