Provides a written plan for providing child life therapy services at WHMC, which clearly delineates the scope, objectives and organization of CL services. This should also include CL goals and objectives and relevance to our patient population. Implements services based on the written plan. Selects, trains, s upervises and evaluates any further CL therapy staff members, volunteers, and students. Develops written policies and protocols based in The Guidelines for the Development of CL Programs in Health Care Settings (Child Life Council), regulatory agencies and relevant institutional requirements.
Establishes and implements a service-improvement plan. Allocates a budget and other resources. Participates in policy decisions that affect children and families. Evaluates evidence-based practice and integrates new knowledge into CL practice. Participates in reciprocal in-service education and consultation, including medical students, resident physicians, nurses, and other pediatric staff. Will actively participate participate in clinical inpatient, outpatient Pediatrics Emergency Room, Endoscopy and Pediatrics Dental clinic area.
- Maintains a strong working relationship with patients, nurses, physicians, and other members of the hospital staff.
- Collects and maintains data/reports related to activities of the CLS program.
- Reports concerns of patients and families.
- Handles confidential information appropriately; maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Knowledgeable in the functions, policies, and procedures of the Institution.
- Attends meetings as required, including in-service education.
- Assists the Institution with special projects and assignments.
- Performs all duties as required.
- Will document all interventions in the records of infants, children, youth and families.
- Provides play-based therapy to pediatric inpatients and outpatients.
- E ducates pediatric inpatients and outpatients on medical treatment.
- Supports toddlers, children and adolescents undergoing painful procedures.

Position Requirements- T his position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years job - related experience.
- Certified Child Life Specialist Degree or Eligibility
- This position requires an individual with the ability to interact well with external contacts, works well with minimal supervision, is detail-oriented, can manage numerous tasks at the same time.
