We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Supervisor.

In this role, the successful candidate will manage the day-to-day operations of the resource laboratory, including budget monitoring, establishing and enforcing standard operating procedures, maintaining equipment and supplies, training technicians in a variety of laboratory procedures, among other duties.

• Manage day to day operations of the research laboratory, including budgeting and spending oversight, cost analyses of research projects, ensuring operation of essential equipment, and maintenance of adequate supplies.
• Follows current literature and web postings regarding trends in areas of importance to lab operations.
• Attend national and local meetings and conferences to remain current on lab management strategies and tools.
• Establish and enforce standard operating procedures for receiving materials into the lab and sending materials to other labs, including the material transfer agreement process when appropriate.
• Manage lab safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
• Help principal investigator in assigning responsibilities for individual instruments and for laboratory maintenance.
• Ensure prompt unpacking and organization of delivered equipment and supplies.
• Assist in monitoring expenditures and tracking budgets for several accounts used by the lab.
• Ensure prompt ordering of equipment and supplies for the lab using a computer based ordering system and/or by communication with the central ordering department.
• Train students and technicians in a variety of laboratory procedures.
• Lead efforts, with members of the lab, organizing lab operations and overseeing standardization of lab procedures; have authority over all lab personnel on matters of regulatory compliance.
• Act as liaison between the lab and NYU departments on issues such as budget management, fixed asset inventory, regulatory compliance and purchasing.
• Work with the financial analyst to define the lab budget, identify accounts for ordering, and work with lab staff to keep spending within budgetary constraints.

• Bachelors of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training) will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator.
• Effective oral and written communication skills required.
• Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
