The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a City University of New York (CUNY) senior College with over 10,000 students. CSI offers a broad range of programs in the liberal arts and sciences, and in several professional areas. The College awards associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and clinical doctoral degrees, and, in collaboration with The CUNY Graduate Center, numerous Ph.D. degrees. CSI is a hub of intellectual and artistic activity and a community partner for the Staten Island area.

Duties

The CLT will perform highly skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework for the Biology Department. Reporting to the Chair of the department, the CLT:

  • Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories, particularly in relation to Anatomy and Physiology and General Biology
  • Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials
  • Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards
  • Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities
  • Manages equipment and materials inventories
  • Prepares, in a timely fashion, all necessary biological samples (preserved or living), reagents, solutions, demonstrations, and other materials for use in assigned labs and departmental facilities
  • Ensures a safe and clean laboratory environment; maintain a clean, orderly, and functional laboratory for use in assigned labs and facilities
  • Operates, maintains, repairs, and cleans equipment and accessories used in assigned labs and facilities
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years’ related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years’ experience, and a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for four years’ experience.

Other Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include:

  • At least six (6) months of laboratory experience outside of an academic classroom setting
  • At least six (6) months of experience in Microbiology, including preparation and pouring of media and the culturing of microorganisms
  • FDNY C-14 Certificate of Fitness for supervising non-production chemical laboratories is highly desirable
Compensation

$61,871 - $66,631. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Notes on Compensation
  • Salaries will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
