Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Care Technician 8th Floor Part Time Nights - LOH. The successful candidate assists the professional nurse in patient and family care by completing assigned tasks, provides competent, safe, and compassionate care, supports unit safety and supply/equipment management, and demonstrates NYU Langone Health Core Values in performance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of NYU Langone Health Core Values and incorporates them into daily duties.
  • Respects patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and rights.
  • Controls and maintains supplies, equipment, and the environment; supports unit safety.
  • Assists in data collection for unit Quality and Performance Improvement measures, including patient satisfaction.
  • Supports the nurse in review and implementation of corrective action plans related to patient/family response and satisfaction.
  • Recognizes personal limitations and requests assistance when needed.
  • Discusses educational concerns and goals with the Nurse Manager or appropriate leadership; seeks learning resources for identified needs.
  • Participates in orientation of other patient care technicians and in unit meetings and conferences.
  • Completes annual mandatory education for patient care technicians.
  • Demonstrates awareness of needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultures.
  • Supports unit activities and assists in emergency situations as directed.
  • Utilizes specialized skills and safety practices for tasks such as phlebotomy, finger sticks for glucose, and electrocardiograms as assigned.
  • Follows infection prevention and control standards.
  • Assists in data collection and maintains safety and comfort for patients and families; supports admission, transfer, and discharge procedures per unit operations.
  • Communicates responsively with patients, families, and staff; observes and reports to the assigned registered nurse.
  • Supports security of patient belongings and maintains unit cleanliness, safety, and orderliness.
  • Ensures necessary equipment and supplies are available in patient rooms and on the unit.
Minimum Qualifications

Note:

To qualify, candidates should meet one of the following:

  • Patient Care Technician pathway:
    High school graduate or equivalent; graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience, or CNA graduate with course in EKG & Phlebotomy and PCT certification eligible with at least 6 months hospital experience; or PCT certification through NHA with at least 6 months hospital experience. BLS/CPR (AHA) required on entry or upon position start; complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire.
  • Senior Nursing Attendant pathway:
    High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of a CNA program with certification and at least 6 months relevant experience. BLS/CPR (AHA) required on entry. Competencies include strong English communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

Required Licenses: Basic Life Support certification.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
