Job Summary:
Review of all clinical cases according to regulations governing this activity, participation in the review activities of all Oswego Hospital programs as needed. A Quality Coordinator RN is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing quality improvement programs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and enhance patient care and safety
- Review of clinical records for timeliness and quality of documentation to ensure compliance with regulations governing clinical operation, and provide feedback to clinicians and managers.
- Provide assistance, training, and education to staff to assist in improving the quality of care provided to patients. Provide education and training to staff on quality improvement processes and regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of quality review activities and provide reports to the appropriate individuals and committees.
- Attend committee meetings as appropriate and requested.
- Develop and implement quality monitoring - plan, coordinate, and implement quality improvement activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and improve patient outcomes.
- Collect, analyze, and report performance data related to quality improvement initiatives, ensuring timely submission of quality reports.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare teams, including medical staff, to coordinate quality improvement initiatives and provide guidance on best practices.
- Conduct routine audits and medical record reviews to evaluate patient care, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Maintain familiarity with all regulations, which affect the provision and documentation of clinical services (these include but are not limited to the Joint Commission, Department of Health (DOH), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), & Office of Mental Health (OMH)).
- Track and report Joint Commission inpatient core measures, Focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) & Ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE).
- Participate in the tracking and resolution of client/family complaints.
- Participate in incident report monitoring as well as sentinel events via NYPORTS.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
- Excellent written and oral communication, analytical, computer, and presentation skills required.
- Professionalism and awareness appropriate for working with senior leaders, board members, employees, clients, physicians, guests, and volunteers.
Education and Experience:
- NYS Licensed Registered Nurse required. Strong clinical background, excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills, and knowledge of health care regulatory standards and codes. Minimum three of more years’ medical/surgical experience preferably in a leadership/team leader position including charge nurse capacity. Experience in providing medical staff support and establishing positive rapport and culture. Strong information management experience with personal computer knowledge with an emphasis on standard database/spreadsheet/graphics applications.
Working Conditions:
- Extended periods of sitting, using standard office equipment including, but not limited to computers, phones, scanners, fax machines, printers, etc.
- Requires attendance of seminars, workshops, conferences when appropriate.
- Requires leading and/or attending staff and executive meetings.
- Occasionally requires assembling, using and maintaining all departmental equipment.
- Occasionally requires prolonged periods of standing and walking with the ability to lift, push or pull up to 15 lbs. using proper body mechanics.
- Actively participates in Quality Assurance programs and QAPI, in-service programs; completes department specific requirements/competencies; attends all mandatory classes as required; participates in meetings and committees as assigned.
