Position SummaryWe have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Phlebotomist.
Job Responsibilities- Performs routine phlebotomy in a laboratory or patient area.
- Awareness of a patient’s frame of mind and general appearance before proceeding with venipuncture.
- Prepares the area, secures the tourniquet, inserts the needle accurately into the vein, and draws the blood properly.
- Collects the required number and types of tubes as indicated by the requisition.
- Follows departmental procedures and standard operating procedures.
- Completes all procedures during the assigned shift.
- Performs quality control phlebotomy procedures in the laboratory.
- Disposes of used needles immediately after use in appropriate containers.
- Applies safety and quality control procedures daily.
- Complies with isolation and sterile procedures.
- Labels specimens and processes them to the main processing area in a timely manner.
- Uses computer-processing labels to accurately label specimens.
- Transports STAT specimens to the appropriate departments promptly.
- Returns specimens to the verifying area when racks are filled, prior to breaks and end of shift.
- Labels blood bank specimens according to laboratory protocol.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
- Practical knowledge of information system operations.
- Phlebotomy certificate and/or Certification in Medical Assisting required.
- Interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, physicians, and other customers of the Outpatient Lab.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Detail oriented with ability to handle stress and maintain a professional attitude.
- Demonstrated expertise in a wide range of phlebotomy duties across patient populations (pediatric to geriatric).
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
