We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Admitting Clerk.
Responsibilities- Assists in taking reservations from physicians offices, organizes daily admissions boards, and assigns beds. Enters all information in the computer systems and on admission waiting lists accurately and expeditiously.
- Efficiently and courteously answers telephone inquiries; assists in assigning patients to appropriate accommodations.
- Courteously explains patient responsibilities (e.g., private room differentials, limited insurance coverage) and thoroughly answers all questions pertaining to admission.
- Contacts the physician's office if necessary to rectify patient demographics or logistical problems.
- Obtains required pre-admission and admission information; verifies authenticity and accuracy of source materials and gathers up-to-date information.
- Adheres to departmental guidelines regarding sick time, vacation, personal days, and other leaves; arrives on time, notifies of absences promptly, and maintains a professional appearance; wears identification badge at all times.
- Ensures departmental compliance with applicable standards of The Joint Commission and relevant federal, state, and city regulations; designs and implements a comprehensive program of quality assurance; stays aware of current regulatory requirements and answers related questions.
- Accurately updates the computer system to reflect all personal demographic information; explains forms, obtains and witnesses signatures on consent and financial agreements.
- Reviews previously obtained orders for accuracy; promptly enters each admission in the admission log book.
- Performs other duties as assigned; makes suggestions to enhance the area; volunteers assistance to others when appropriate; seeks additional assignments when work is completed; demonstrates a desire to learn additional skill sets.
- Demonstrates prioritization and time management; coordinates daily tasks to maximize shift productivity; adapts well to scheduling changes.
- Recognizes problems and identifies appropriate solutions; escalates to management or follows up as needed; seeks information to ensure accurate completion of duties.
- Cooperates and communicates with all hospital staff, patients, families, and visitors in a courteous, effective, and professional manner; maintains confidentiality of patient, physician, and hospital information.
- Answers telephone inquiries politely and identifies the department; routes non-routine inquiries to Supervisors; takes messages accurately.
- Computes and compiles the hospital's daily census; gathers required statistics from the computer system, admission log, and bed board; performs calculations and records data accurately.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Hospital admissions experience and/or familiarity with insurance verification procedures preferred.
- In addition to the minimum qualifications, light typing and working knowledge of computers are required, as are good communication and interpersonal skills.
