Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing and assessing complex clinical laboratory procedures on specimens for diagnostic purposes in a timely manner.

Job Responsibilities
  • Laboratory set-up: prepare the laboratory area, containers and reagents for staining; prepare and set up containers, solutions, chemicals, and the work area; conduct performance checks and maintain equipment according to policy; ensure adequate supplies; recognize and correct reagent malfunctions; keep the work area neat and clean.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including proper use of the LIS and Power Path.
  • Planning and time management: adapt to changes to facilitate staffing and demonstrate priority identification; maintain alertness and adjust to schedule and work condition changes; complete tasks in a timely manner; use spare time to accession specimens and file slides.
  • Quality Control: monitor testing containers, solutions and work environment following QC procedures; ensure reliability of stains; clean containers; inspect reagents and chemicals; record lot numbers; ensure reagents are not used beyond expiration; run and interpret controls to ensure standardization; troubleshoot malfunctioning reagents and report to pathologists; maintain daily, weekly and monthly logs.
  • Specimen preparation and testing: identify and prepare specimens collected by cytopathologists or other physicians; check samples and slides for correct identification and labeling; complete all scheduled and stat tests in a timely manner; adhere to safety policies; label slides; perform all staining protocols including differential stains and modified rapid Pap stain.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a minimum of six months experience in most laboratory disciplines. NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Histotechnician or Clinical Laboratory Technician. An Associate’s Degree from a relevant course of study as defined by NYS clinical laboratory licensing requirements. A high school degree will only be accepted if the individual has the designated experience defined by NYSDOH and has obtained their NYS license through the grand-parenting pathway defined by NYSDOH.

Required Licenses:
Certified Histotechnician, Clinical Lab Technician-NYS

Preferred Qualifications

Must hold license granted by the New York State Department of Education as a clinical laboratory technologist; ASCP HT/HTL certification is not required but is preferred.

Additional Qualifications

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Compensation

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York State Salary Transparency law. The salary range for the role is $58,931.00 – $ annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range listed does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
